Office of Career and Professional Development: Tackling Difficult Professional Conversations

Saturday, October 26, 2013 - 10:00am to 3:00pm

Relationships in the research arena can be challenging. When sensitive or difficult conversations arise, you want to approach them appropriately to optimize your chances of a successful exchange, and react professionally if things turn sour. Learn from an expert in communication and conflict resolution why difficult conversations go wrong and how to prepare for a productive exchange. In this interactive session you will dissect scenarios that may occur in a research setting, and learn strategies for handling similar cases.

Workshop Leader: Nancy Friedman, MBA, Executive Coach, Next Step Consulting

Nancy works extensively with the Center for Health Professions at UCSF as faculty and coach in many of their programs. Nancy’s coaching and training practice leverages her 25 years of senior management experience leading teams in a variety of environments. These experiences enable her to bring insights and practical approaches to her clients. She has dealt with her fair share of difficult people and difficult conversations over the years and looks forward to sharing techniques and strategies for success with you.
